Observer - Nile Keep me anonymous if published - no Location (general area) - Baldy Bowl Latitude Longitude Date (yyyymmdd) - 2013/01/04 Time - 6 to 10 AM Road conditions to area - clear Temperature - 32 degrees at 6:00am Sky - clear (no clouds) Wind speed - Calm (smoke rises vertically) Wind direction - not observed Wind direction in degrees Slope aspect - not observed Aspect in degrees Slope angle Elevation Snow depth - 3 to 6 inches in the bowl, 60-70% coverage Boot/ Ski penetration - boots punch through by 7:30 AM Precipitation - None Activity, recent avalanches - No Brief description - Avalanche risk ---virtually zero due to lack of volume and consolidated layer. Whumphing noises, shooting cracks. collapsing - no Rapid warming - no Obvious avalanche path - no Terrain trap - no Comment - 1.5 inch thick hard encrusted layer with 3 to 6 inches of sugar snow underneath. Excellent conditions for crampons early in the AM. Not enough coverage for really good glissades. Publish this observation - Yes I would like this observation Published |
